KENYA, Yesterday we woke up with shocking announcement that Nation Media Group (the largest media house in East and Central Africa) was closing down its QFM and Nation Fm radio stations in Kenya and KFM Rwanda and the all-swahili news QTV Tv station in Kenya. In their statement they said that hundreds of their staff will rendered jobless, including top journalists who have been working on the affected stations. The aim of Nation Media Group is changing it into a “modern 21st century digital content company”.

“Regrettably this will result in a reduction of our workforce through job redundancies,” Nation said, noting the changes are effective June 30. Though the media house said the changes will be carried out with due respect to employees and in accordance with the law.

Nation said it will keep a live signal and maintain an online presence in line with its digital strategy. It assured customers that it is committed to providing quality programming.

Upcoming journalists should worry after seeing such trend, Nation Fm has been rebranding year in year out, lately it sacked 34 employees including top presenters, one of those who were sacked, Anto Neo had this to say

When Nation FM chujad Sana, Ciru, Obinna, myself and 34 other peeps, the madharau they spewed on us even after giving our all there. NOW SEE

QFM was at one point the fastest growing Swahili radio station in kenya before they sacked their good presenters and their fan base reduced.
Such sackings are a common place in Kenya media world, even top presenters who upcoming journalists look up to are humiliatingly declared redundant, something need to be done….
